About Us
NewHeartlands was established in 2003 and the programme is expected to last for 10 to 15 years. We cover around 130,000 properties in some of Merseyside's most disadvantaged communities across Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral.
The Liverpool area of NewHeartlands includes Anfield/Breckfield, Kensington, Picton and Princes Park. In Sefton, development is split into five neighbourhoods, Queens/Bedford, Klondyke, Linacre, Peel/Knowsley and Seaforth & Waterloo. Wirral is divided into five main areas, Birkenhead, Tranmere, Rock Ferry, Seacombe & Egremont.
NewHeartlands will deliver major investment and regeneration to Merseyside, which is estimated to reach £2.85billion over the lifetime of the programme,
To date we have been able to refurbish 6793 homes, build 2117 new houses and apartments and clear 2086 older properties. Over the next 10 years we aim to build on this progress and will:
- Build 23,000 thousand modern, well-designed new homes.
- Refurbish 63,000 existing homes.
- Demolish 10,500 derelict, poor quality or outdated properties in unpopular areas.
- Improve areas of open green space, neighbourhood street lighting, roads and community safety.
- Help to create jobs, reduce crime and improve neighbourhood prosperity and attractiveness.
NewHeartlands' vision is to ensure communities and neighbourhoods are transformed to meet the needs of local people. The programme will support economic growth, combat areas of decline, encourage a sense of community and create new opportunities for residents.
