ANTI-BULLYING BOOKS LAUNCHED

A NEW project to tackle bullying and vandalism was launched at schools in the Seaforth and Waterloo housing market renewal area.

Representatives from Merseyside Police and Maritime and Crosby Housing Association made a visit to Waterloo Primary to officially launch the project.

Star of the Sea and William Gladstone Primaries are also involved.

Books - called Barney and Echo: A Friendship Made - were given out to all children in years 5 and 6. The books tell the story of a little bird who was bullied, and how he dealt with the situation.

The project came under the banner of the children's Citizenship Curriculum. The aim was to explain the effect that bullying and vandalism can have not only on an individual, but also on the wider community.

Sheilagh Kirwan, neighbourhood regeneration manager for Maritime Housing Association, said: "We wanted to make the children aware of these important issues, and the negative effects they can have. We wanted to boost their confidence in both themselves and their communities, and help them to think about the choices they make in their lives."
