Awards success for local firm
A Liverpool-based company has been named as the winner of a prestigious award.
D Morgan Plc won the Small Medium Enterprise (SME) of the Year category at the North West Construction Awards, held recently in Southport. The SME award recognises a company which has had a significant impact on the industry in the North West over the year as well as presenting strong prospects for future growth.
It was also shortlisted for the Environmental Sustainability Award, for its work with the Liverpool Housing Market Renewal programme. This reflects D Morgan Plc's strong commitment to the green agenda. More than 90% of materials removed by the business from Liverpool's HMR sites are recycled for reuse.
The business operates across the region in the fields of civil engineering, demolition, site remediation and maintenance. It recently celebrated its 60th year, and provides significant employment in the Merseyside area. It has a strong emphasis on health and safety, and prides itself on the training it offers to staff, with grandfathers, fathers and sons all having come through D Morgan schemes.
Denis Morgan, Chairman, said: "We feel exceptionally proud to have won this Award, especially when we consider the very high calibre of nominees this year. As a business, we are dedicated to sustainability, training, local employment and respect for the environment, our employees and the community. Winning this award has shown that our ethos is one that works, and we are thrilled to have been named as the North West's SME of the Year."
Councillor Joe Anderson, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "I'm always pleased to see local firms doing so well, and I am delighted D Morgan Plc has been recognised at these important North West Construction Awards. The city council works closely with D Morgan as an important local employer, and it shows how a business can operate successfully and still display a strong element of corporate social responsibility."
Notes to Editors
- NewHeartlands is one of ten HMR pathfinders in the country. It is tasked with regenerating the inner Merseyside area by tackling low-demand and poor-quality housing markets, usually in some of the UK's most deprived areas. We work closely with Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral Councils and other partners including the Home and Communities Agency, private developers, RSLs and residents.
- The programme started in 2003 and is expected to run for 10-15 years. The homebuilding plans are only one aspect of the programme which also includes job creation, social regeneration and community building, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and boosting prosperity.
