NewHeartlands

NewHeartlands is one of the government's ten housing market renewal (HMR) pathfinders. This means that we are charged with finding new ways to tackle the problems of low demand and housing market collapse in neighbourhoods across Merseyside.

At the centre of the programme are the people of the communities affected by market failure. In practice, this means that residents are extensively consulted before the development of their local area so that plans are tailored to each neighbourhood.

The programme is progressing well despite difficult national economic conditions. Local people are moving into new and refurbished homes and the investment is making a major difference to the look of the neighbourhoods and the quality of life of the people living there.

Housing though is only part of the story. The investment will help create a more attractive and supportive place for residents, with our partners delivering improvements to public transport, health facilities, community policing and the general environment.
