RESIDENTS SET TO CHOOSE WIRRAL'S ART SPOT!
Residents living in Wirral's Housing Market Renewal areas are set to consider where in their neighbourhood they might like to see a piece of public art.
It's part of Merseyside's unique Art for Places project which is heading for Wirral to launch the second phase in its three year programme.
The scheme is an inspirational way of helping communities re-shape their neighbourhoods through public art in partnership with NewHeartlands, the Liverpool Biennial and the Arts Council, along with local authorities and Housing Associations.
Eventually, it will result in three public art commissions across Merseyside's HMR areas (Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral) with Sefton's winner for their Waterworks project to be announced in a couple of weeks time.
Community engagement plays a big role in the Art for Places programme. In Wirral's case this means consulting with residents about their neighbourhoods and where they might like to see art helping regenerate the area.
Paul Kelly the HMR Public Realm Project Manager said:
"The idea of the scheme is to create aspirational spaces that reflect the identity and life of a particular place or community, building a bridge between regeneration and the arts. We want people to come along and tell us about their favourite places in their neighbourhood so that we can look to select a site for a public art commission."
To launch the programme of events in Wirral workshops for residents will be taking place from Friday 28th August 2009 with three artist led projects continuing until December.
