What's Happening In Your Area?
Sefton - Seaforth/Waterloo
Why has the area been chosen for development?
Parts of the Seaforth and Waterloo neighbourhoods have in recent
years begun to suffer from the signs of housing market failure. The
area contains a wide mix of housing with high levels of terraced
properties. There are pockets of property with a high turnover rate
and several long term vacancies. In some areas, there has been a
decline in house prices over the past five years and an increase in
the amount of privately rented accommodation. In order to stop
further decline, the neighbourhoods have been chosen as areas that
should benefit from Housing Market Renewal funding, over the next
10 to 15 years.
What is happening?
No Major intervention is planned for this area at the moment but
the area is subject to the Seaforth Local Area Action Plan (SLAAP)
looking at the long term future of the area. This will particularly
focus on the Seaforth Vale corridor from the Country Park through
to the Seaforth Docks.
Neighbourhood management
Each HMR area has been assigned a Registered Social Landlord (RSL)
to manage the neighbourhood and provide advice, support and
services for all residents, whether they rent or own their
property.
The RSL for the Seaforth/Waterloo area are Crosby Maritime and
they are based at:

Living through change
Improvements have been made in the Seaforth/Waterloo area through a
programme of 'living through change' projects which is
funded by Housing Market Renewal. This is delivered by the
neighbourhood RSL and aims to support people living in the area by
making the environment as pleasant as possible. Initiatives in the
Seaforth/Waterloo neighbourhood include:
- Handy person scheme - where residents can access a handy person to do odd jobs, for free. For more information contact Becky Henstock on 0151 920 2248.
- Family Matters Day.
- Waterloo Health Project.
- Seaforth detatched youth workers.
- Waterloo residents website.
How long will it take?
Housing Market Renewal is a 10-15 year programme and covers most of
south Sefton. At present, resources are being focussed on the areas
in most need. The Housing Market Renewal programme in
Seaforth/Waterloo is designed to help address some of the issues
being experienced by residents. Over the course of the Housing
Market Renewal programme, we will work with partners to identify
further resources that may be required for the area.
How will I be kept informed about what's
happening?
Housing Market Renewal distribute a newsletter to every home in the area on a quarterly basis. The newsletter will keep you informed of whats happening in your area and copies of the newsletter can also be found in the library and local community centres.
Crosby and Maritime Housing Associations produce a quarterly
newsletter which is also distributed to every household in the
neighbourhood.
What other improvements will I see?
Housing Market Renewal is about creating places where people want
to live, where they have access to good transport, health
facilities, good shops, a safe and clean environment and good
community facilities.
The Housing Market Renewal team has been working with a range of services and organisations to make this happen. For example funding projects such as:
- Reassurance Policing - This is a dedicated police officer for the Peel/Knowsley area.
- Environmental Hit Squad - Environmental and security initiative to improve the physical appearance of the neighbourhood.
Seaforth and Waterloo also has a range of community facilities.
