The Antillia Collective

The Antillia Collective

When considering the brief for the Sefton Waterworks project, the Antillia Collective focused on the area's unique heritage, and combining leisure with industry. Whilst they admire the large scale sculptural gestures that seek to find a brand for communites, their aim with this work was to achieve a structure that was at once flexible and unique. Therefore, rather than grandstanding gestures or overt shape making, their submission, the pavilion, is shaped by a range of more subtle influences from the leisure traditions of longboats, bandstands, windbreaks, and deckchairs. The collective commented: "We feel that a wryly humorous take on British outdoor coastal culture might be appropriate for a transient, lighthearted installation such as this one."
