Sefton Press Releases - THE HUNT IS ON FOR YOUR COMMUNITY CHAMPION!

28 Aug 2009

THE HUNT IS ON FOR YOUR COMMUNITY CHAMPION!

Residents across South Sefton can now nominate their unsung heroes from across the area for a special award to be presented in October.

The Community Champions scheme which was piloted in Sefton last year has been running again in 2009 with projects running throughout July along with an initiative to teach students about community development.

Housing Associations in each of the Housing Market Renewal areas gave community groups Living Through Change funding which was used to run a neighbourhood project.

They included the 'Big Lunch' in Klondyke and a community fun day in Seaforth with the aim of celebrating community development activity and learning.

Now residents can nominate any community group or individual they feel has gone the extra mile and that the area would be lost without!

Nominations can be made online at http://www.sefton.gov.uk/champions/ohttp://www.sefton.gov.uk/champions, by calling 0151 934 4830 to request a form to be sent in the post or by dropping into RSL office to pick one up.

The closing date to nominate your local hero is Monday 31st August 2009.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Bootle Town Hall for all of the Community Champion events on the 15th October 2009.

Karen McCombish, Programme Co-ordinator for Sefton Council's Housing Market Renewal Team said:

"We believe honouring the unsung heroes of the community is extremely important. These people do a lot of hard work to benefit people in the area and it's only right that they should be recognised for what they do often in difficult circumstances. We're hoping to get lots of nominations from across the five renewal areas and are looking forward to seeing them!"
