WIRRAL WARDENS TAKE TO THE CATWALK

THE Live Wirral neighbourhood wardens have become a much-loved feature of local communities - and now they will be even easier to spot, dressed in brand new uniforms.

The wardens play a vital role supporting local residents, helping them with issues such as anti-social behaviour and keeping the neighbourhoods clean and tidy. They have received literally hundreds of 'thank you' cards and letters.

The 19-strong team is now entirely funded by the Housing Market Renewal programme and managed by the Regenda group. They have been given outfits in the vivid green Live Wirral colours.

The warden team - more used to pacing the streets than the catwalk - showed off their new look at a special fashion show, which also marked one of the first events held at the new Live Wirral Community House.

Dave Morrell, Manager of the Live Wirral Wardens, said: "High fashion is not usually our strong suit, but it was all in good spirit. We are all very dedicated to our work in the community, and hope the new uniforms make us easy to identify and approach - after all, we are here to help people."

The new Community House was formerly two separate buildings in Laird Street, which have been transformed and fully refitted into an asset for the local community and a base for the Live Wirral Warden's.

As the Housing Market Renewal programme moves further into the Birkenhead area, it is envisaged that the House will be utilised by the Council's HMR team. They will be able to hold surgeries to deal with residents queries and hold community consultation events. It is also hoped that the Community House will also be used by local people and agencies to hold meetings and events.

Chris Bowen, housing market renewal manager in Wirral, said: "Our programme of refurbishment, repair and new build aims to transform certain areas of Wirral, and to inject fresh life into neighbourhoods. Involving and informing residents is a key part of the process, and we hope the Community House will be well-used by local people."
